What is Manganese Sand?
Manganese sand filter material has a rough appearance of brown or light gray, nearly round, and its main component is manganese dioxide MnO2, with a content of 35%-70%. Users can choose products with different contents according to different treatment purposes.
Manganese sand filter media is made of high-quality manganese sand ore, which has dense grains, high mechanical strength, is not easy to break, is insoluble in water, and is corrosion-resistant.
It is processed into sand through water washing, grinding, impurity removal, crushing, drying, magnetic separation, screening, dust removal and other processes.
Then the processed manganese sand filtration is blended according to a certain gradation. It has an ideal gradation ratio for water treatment filter materials, which makes it have a large specific surface area per unit volume, strong pollution interception ability, large oxidation catalytic effect and small backwash loss rate.
Use of Manganese Sand Filter Media
Manganese sand is mainly used for removing iron and manganese from groundwater. When the MnO2 content is 35% or more, it can remove iron and manganese, while the MnO2 content is less than 30%, it can only be used to remove iron from groundwater.
According to China’s drinking water hygiene standards: Iron content is 0.3mg/l or less, manganese content is 0.1mg/l or less. Drinking water with high iron and manganese content for a long time will seriously affect health.
Regarding the service life of manganese sand, it is generally 3 to 5 years for groundwater with high iron concentration, and longer, for groundwater with low iron concentration, even more than ten years.
